My business writing and internet marketing experience includes white papers, case studies, business proposals, press releases, business blogs and extended articles. I have provided specialized consulting, content writing, business development, business coaching, career training and market research services to global clients located throughout the world.

While successful content writers seem to have an enviable life -- they work from home, make their own schedules and work as much or as little as they please -- the vast majority have a hard time making a living of it. They lack the skills necessary to succeed. Because no matter how talented they are, writing skill is simply not enough. So, if you want to become successful as a content writer, you need a full toolkit of marketable skills.
There's an old saying: "Find a job that you love to do, and you will never work a day in your life." No truer words have ever been spoken. I have multiple degrees and have worked in education, social work, small business management and more. However, I have never been so happy and fulfilled as I have since I decided to pursue my passion for writing. I enjoy writing everything from marketing materials to children's stories and have proven myself capable of writing pretty much anything given clear expectations.
I write copy for the things around my house (my fridge, car, bed, the more boring the better) and try to sell them by their most unique characteristic. I’ll add in some storytelling and emotional appeal and see how many responses (conversions) I get. I’ll even do split testing by advertising in different cities. Whenever someone calls I say I already sold it. It’s a great way to see what people respond to!
I have been writing professionally since 2006 and editing since 2012. I've worked in SEO since 2014, and I have helped business owners in several industries meet their goals. I am especially experienced in working with home service companies, attorneys and chiropractors. I also have extensive experience writing about pet care, health and wellness, and several other subjects.
Content writers may need a bachelor's degree or higher. Many employers hire writers with degrees in English, journalism, communications, or creative writing. Depending on the subject matter, content writers might need a degree in a particular field. For example, a content writer creating content for an online math course might need a degree in math in addition to demonstrating solid writing skills.
Hey Nev! Awesome post. It’s very informative for someone new (like me) to copywriting. This post couldn’t have come at a better time for me. I like your tips and I’d like to give you one that is working well for me. Just write. Every day I have been creating the habit of writing daily. Just having a daily goal with a super-simple task to complete helps tremendously. I think Stephen King recommends daily writing practice, too. It’s working well for me as I increase my skills and learn new things. And that’s my 100 words for the day!
